Amy E. Rose

Senior Associate

Amy Rose focuses her practice on federal and state court litigation including contract and business tort cases, insurance coverage disputes, unfair competition claims and appellate matters. She advises international clients in a range of industries and practice areas including real estate, telecommunications and media, insurance, banking and transportation. A member of the firm’s Appellate & Supreme Court Practice Group, her experience includes petitions for writ of certiorari to the US Supreme Court, appeals in both the Sixth and Ninth Circuits, and a number of appeals and writs before the California Court of Appeal. Ms. Rose also volunteers her time for pro bono appellate matters in the Sixth and Ninth Circuits including habeas corpus petitions, Section 1983 claims, employment matters and asylum appeals.

Ms. Rose is a member of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law’s Board of Governors. She is also an alumni coach and consultant for the University of California, Hastings College of the Law’s nationally acclaimed moot court program, where she coaches second- and third-year law students competing in the John Marshall Law School International Moot Court Competition in Information Technology and Privacy Law and the University of Wisconsin Law School Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Competition. Ms. Rose was named 2008-2009 Alumni Coach of the Year.

In 2009 Ms. Rose was named a Rising Star in the Northern California Super Lawyer’s magazine, a distinction that recognizes outstanding attorneys who are 40 years old or younger or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.

Ms. Rose is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Legal Community Against Violence and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law Board of Governors of the Alumni Association.

Representative Experience

  • Defending and advising an insurance company in complex litigation, including intervening appeals and petitions for special writs, against a manufacturer of asbestos-containing products concerning coverage for hundreds of thousands of bodily injury claims spanning three decades.
  • Representing a Spain-based media company seeking damages under RICO and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in federal court in California for the theft of its satellite television transmissions.
  • Defending an international manufacturer against a white collar criminal matter involving export violations and complex money laundering charges.
  • Obtaining the dismissal of US litigation between non-US corporations on the basis of an inconvenient forum.
  • Assisting with a wrongful termination and breach of an employment contract case on behalf of an international mining client.
  • Obtaining a summary adjudication of retaliation and wrongful termination claims on behalf of an international manufacturer.
  • Assisting in an investigation of Enron’s structured financing transactions as conflicts counsel to the Enron Unsecured Creditors Committee.
  • Obtaining the reversal of summary judgment on 28 U.S.C. 1983 appeal for an indigent prisoner under the Ninth Circuit’s pro bono program.
  • Obtaining the reversal of an immigration judge’s order denying asylum to an El Salvadorian seeking asylum on the basis of political opinion and membership in a persecuted group under the Ninth Circuit’s pro bono program.
  • Obtaining parental and visitation rights, and successfully defending those rights on appeal, for the non-biological mother of a child conceived with a registered domestic partner of five years under gender-neutral application of California’s presumed parentage laws.
